FAQ

Why have I never heard of public adjusters?

Until a homeowner has a problem with their insurance company paying on a claim, they assume they have been paying their premiums on time, and their insurance company will take care of their problem. You realize now your insurance company is not your advocate and that is why you are on the internet searching for answers and help.

Why don't you advertise?

There are only a dozen licensed public adjusters in the state of Iowa and less in Nebraska. Typically we receive referrals from past clients we have helped through this stressful process.

Why is my insurance company discouraging me from contacting a public adjuster?

Because we don't work for the insurance company, they know we understand the process and know how to maximize the claim for your benefit. They also know we use the same software they are using, which is not available to you, the homeowner. The insurance company has a business model, especially on large claims. The business model is to deny, delay and defend. The longer the process can be drawn out, the more likely you (the Insured) will settle and they can close the claim.

Also, as a public adjuster in Iowa and insurance consultant in Nebraska, we are licensed by the state. Your insurance adjuster is not. Your insurance adjuster is typically, and employee of your insurance company and they have been trained by your insurance company how to settle your claim for the least amount of money. Insurance companies can reduce the claim by encouraging you to use their PREFERRED VENDORS.

What is a preferred vendor?

A preferred vendor is typically a franchise business which is used by the insurance company to perform the repairs as your insurance company instructs them. The preferred vendor is using the insurance company as their lead source for their business. So the two industries work hand in hand. The insurance company has reduced their fees to reduce the claim. When corners are being cut, someone has to pay, and that is usually the homeowner.

We just had a significant hail storm in the area, and all my neighbours are getting roofs, but my insurance company told me I have no damage. How can this be?

This is a typical ploy by some companies to reduce paying out on claims. Your insurance adjuster may tell you there was not enough damage to cover your deductible or your roof is OLD and has normal wear and tear. If in doubt call us and we will inspect your roof. If there is no damage, there is NO COST to you the homeowner for getting a second opinion. But if there is damage we can document with pictures this can save your family thousands of dollars in the future repairing a roof that the insurance company should have replaced.

Our insurance company told us if we use a public adjuster, they will drop our insurance. What can we do?

This is a typical scare tactic by insurance companies to keep us out of the picture. Again, they know we work for you, not them. They will also say our fees are fees will be 25-35% of the claim. This is not true. Our fees are typically 10% of the claim, and they are only paid if we WIN. It costs nothing to visit with us. We will assess your claim. If we can win on your behalf, we will pursue your claim. If we cannot better your financial position with your insurance company, we will tell you. We do not want to give you false Hope and spend time and not perform. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT POINT: WE ONLY RECEIVE A FEE IF WE CAN BETTER YOUR POSITION WITH YOUR CLAIM.
